DUTCHING

The Betometer has many powerful functions and this is one of them, the 'Dutching Function'

In simple terms 'Dutching' means being able to share the risk of losing across a number or runners by backing more than one selection in a race or event. The process calculates the correct stake to place on each selection so that the return is the same if any of them wins.

What The Betometer can do however is, unlike other programs, to proportion the stake so that the return (profit) can be adjusted to suit how we feel about an individual selection.

So, again in simple terms, if we adjusted the stake so that a particular horse in a race returned a zero profit this improves the returns of the other horses in that race. By doing this we are creating 'value' in the bet.

Here is an example of this:

From the above you can see that the profit of 2.95 is equal across all 3 runners, and if you add the stakes on each runner the total is 10

Now look at the above example.

By placing slightly less on Horse 1 and slightly more on Horse 2 and Horse 3 you increase the

By altering the stakes in this way, you are altering the distribution of probability for the runners. The mathematical explanation of this is far in advance of this help guide, but it has been a proven method of enhancing value when betting for professional bettors for many years.

We can select which runner we wish to alter the stakes and profits for by using The Betometer Ratings. Each UK horse is given a rating in the form of a starting price. Used in conjunction with other Betometer value indicators we alter the runners' stakes that offer better or worse value.

potential profit for Horse 2 and Horse 3 for the same 10 stake.

Back Dutching

Lay Dutching

This is operated in exactly the same way as Back Dutching except that we want our selections to LOSE not win. In the following examples Lay odds are used but are not visible in the screen shots.

Notice that this time we have altered the liability of Horse 1 to zero.

This is very significant as we are once again altering the value of the bet in our favour.

If Horse 1 wins, we lose nothing and yet if we are successful and all the selections lose we still win our required profit. We can use this technique for adjusting our maximum liability also.

Here is another example.

Now see what happens when we add another selection to the Lay Dutch but zero the liability.

See how the odds increase from 1.69 to 1.94 this has created 36% extra value for our bet.

So if Horse 2 wins we lose nothing, BUT if Horse 1 wins we only lose 6.59 and not 9.1 had we just Lay bet Horse 1 on its own. Yet our profit remains the same.

Note that although zero was used in these examples you can enter any figure you like for profits and liabilities.

This is the principle of creating value by altering the distribution of probability for our selections and we can do this whether we either Back or Lay Dutch using The Betometer.
